Julius Caesar:
by Shakespeare
During-reading
Strategy: Bookmarks
The students will each receive their own
bookmark blank, which they'll fill out as they read
along. The bookmark is both a visual organizer and
a handy reference that they will always have with them
as they read. On one side, there will be a
schedule of readings and page numbers, so the students
will be able to see at a glance how much they have to
read for the day, and how far along in the play they
are. Below that will be a list of characters in
the play with a few blank lines below each. These
will be for noting any pertinent character traits or
memorable lines, etc. The back side will include a
blank area for vocabulary and quotable selections.
To encourage the use of the bookmarks, I will leave some
room around the edges to allow them to decorate their
own, increasing ownership, as well as mention that these
bookmarks will be available for any tests or quizzes
that might come up during this unit.
